This holiday season, we'd like to share with you our family recipe for Breakaway Bread…and just in time for Christmas dinner! This homemade bread is hot, fresh, and buttery delicious, and it's the perfect compliment for the family meal!

This bread is such an imporant part of our holiday meal, we time it just right to take the bread out of the oven just as we are sitting down to eat.

And here's a sinfully delicious tip:
Turn your homemade bread into a homemade dessert! Simply add butter, microwave for a few seconds, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar to taste and enjoy!

So without further ado, here's the easy, step-by-step way to make Breakaway Bread:

BREAKAWAY BREAD

2 pkgs. dry active yeast
1 cup of warm water
1 cup of boiling water
1 cup of shortening
3/4 cup of sugar

1/2 tsp. of salt
2 beaten eggs
6 cups of all purpose flour
1 stick of butter (melted)
2 Bundt or Tube Pans

Dissolve yeast in warm water and and let stand - you can add 2 additional Tbsp. of sugar in the yeast and water to help the yeast "proof" more quickly.

In a large bowl, pour boiling water over shortening and dissolve. Add all other ingredients and mix well by hand.

Cover bowl and let stand overnight in the refrigerator.

Roll dough out 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut with biscuit cutter, dip in melted butter and stack in pans - if using Tube pans only use the pans that are one piece - if the center lifts out the butter will drip out of the pan.

Cover and let rise 2 to 3 hours. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in a 250 degree oven until golden brown.

(To re-heat bread, wrap a couple of pieces in a dampened paper towl and microwave for 10 to 12 seconds.)
