There are two ways to design the vinyl car graphics yourself.
1) If you have a graphics program, you can e-mail us your own design
2) The second way is by using our SignMagic Online Design Center
There's a trick to using SignMagic to design the vinyl lettering for your car though. Once you know this trick, it's pretty easy. If you want to design your car graphics online using SignMagic, start by measuring your car door.
Specifically, measure the area where the car door lettering will comfortably fit. (If you don't want the vinyl graphics on the car door, measure any other area where you want the lettering to fit.)
The second step is to select the "box size" in SignMagic that most closely matches that measurement. For example, a box sized 12" tall x 24" wide will usually fit on a car door. And then just make sure all the car lettering and graphics you design online, fits within that box.
Yes! Your artwork, photograph or company logo can be produced into a highly professional, beautiful, vinyl car graphic image.
Yes! We can use the exact letter style (font) for your vinyl car lettering. Just let us know what you have in mind and we're happy to accommodate your requests.
Getting the car lettering and graphics to fit perfectly is quite easy with our system! Once the design is finalized, we'll e-mail you a design with all the measurements of the vinyl letters & graphics.
With these measurements, simply measure the corresponding areas on your car to make certain all of the car lettering will fit exactly like you want it. The same program we use to design your car lettering is used to PRODUCE the vinyl lettering. So there's absolutely no difference between the sizes you'll see in the design and the sizes actually produced and shipped.
No, we don't charge for car lettering by the letter anymore. That's how we did it in the "old days" back in the 80's and 90's.
Vinyl car lettering and car graphics are now priced by the overall size of the vinyl graphics, the number of colors and the level of complexity. Plus, there's one other factor which affects the final price - the grade of vinyl you choose (Standard, Premium or Reflective).
These variables are reflected in our online car lettering pricing calculator.

We now have access to a gazillion clipart images to use for vinyl car graphics! Here's how it works. The Clipart.com website has an advanced search tool built right in. Sort of like Google.
For example, I found this image for an attorney by searching for "scales of justice" at the Clipart.com website.

Once you find the clipart you want for your vinyl car graphics, just e-mail us the item number. We have a subscription so we'll upload the clipart you've selected right into your car lettering design or your online account folder to use at your discretion.
For free!
Of course, this takes a few minutes. But the enormous variety of free graphics to use for your car at Clipart.com, more than makes up for the temporary inconvenience. It just wouldn't be practical to offer the same variety of images for car graphics on our own website.
Yes! If you don't find what your looking for at Clipart.com, we highly recommend trying Istockphoto.com. Istockphoto.com has an even more impressive selection of pictures and artwork to choose from to enhance your vinyl graphics.
Once you use their search tool to find the picture or artwork you want, just e-mail us the item number and we will incorporate the artwork into your design online.
Again, this will take a few minutes. But Istockphoto.com provides such a broad range of quality pictures to choose from, it's well worth it when you want to enhance the appearance of your vinyl car graphics.
Absolutely!
Our graphic designer is unusually gifted. So if you need a new company logo designed, custom design services are available for $75 per hour. Once your logo is finalized, we can produce the vinyl graphics for your car.
Yes!
Layouts and designs are free!
If you want to see a design before you buy, we offer a live, online design service for car lettering and graphics. We'll show you exactly what your vinyl letters will look like placed on your make and model car.
Designs for vinyl car lettering and graphics are also free with every order! Once you place your order, we'll e-mail your design showing you what the vinyl letters and/or vinyl graphics will look like, right on your make and model car.
We don't charge for layout and design changes because we want you to be completely happy with your vinyl car lettering and graphics when they arrive! So please request all the changes you want, before you give us final approval.
Changes are complimentary.
Yes!
However, unless you are highly experienced in wrapping cars, it's not practical to install your own vinyl car wrap. Vinyl car wraps take specialized skills and tools to apply properly.
If you happen to reside in the Lowcountry around Charleston, North Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, Summerville, Goose Creek, Moncks Corner, Johns Island, James Island, Seabrook, or Kiawah Island, South Carolina, we would love the opportunity to work one-on-one with you to get the car wrap design you want.
Not exactly. But very, very close.
The colors displayed on your monitor will not perfectly match the colors of the vinyl car graphics. There are slight variations because:
- Everyone uses different computer monitors and settings
- A computer screen is illuminated (lit up), so the colors of car lettering will appear different on your monitor than the vinyl graphics appear in real life.
- And viewing the vinyl car lettering itself in different lighting conditions can affect the way the colors appear in person.
If matching a particular color is critically important, we can send out a free color sample prior to producing your order.
Since orders are transmitted to production immediately after your final design approval, it is generally impossible to make further corrections or changes. If you have just placed your order though and have a last minute change, please CALL customer service immediately.
The telephone is still the fastest way to communicate urgent matters.
If the vinyl car lettering or graphics haven't been produced yet, we are happy to make the change for you at no charge!
Of course! We often design custom license plates to go hand-in-hand with the new vinyl car lettering and graphics. Be sure to ask your customer service specialist.
Technical Data About Vinyl Automotive Lettering & Automotive Graphics
"How are vinyl car graphics produced?"Vinyl car lettering and car graphics are produced three different ways.
- The most common way to produce vinyl car lettering is from rolls of vinyl.
The raw vinyl material itself resembles bumper sticker material. We load
rolls of colored vinyl into a computer controlled cutting machine called a
plotter or vinyl cutter. The plotter plots the outermost path (edge) of the
lettering and images in the design.
And once the path or course is plotted out, the vinyl cutter contour cuts the vinyl into letters, shapes and graphics. When you apply these letters, shapes and graphics onto your car, the images will appear as if they are printed right onto the car's painted surface. - Vinyl Car Graphics are also commonly printed. Full-color digital sign printers print vibrant, water proof ink colors right onto the self-adhesive vinyl. The range of colors, designs and sizes that can be printed for your new vinyl car graphics is virtually unlimited.
- And the third way vinyl car lettering and graphics are produced is with a combination of printing and contour cutting. Instead of being limited to simple shapes like a square or rectangle, printed car graphics can then be contour cut by the plotter. Having the ability to contour cut printed graphics into any shape (including letters) gives you a much broader range of colors and other design options for your car lettering project.
Understanding the differences between vinyl car lettering, vinyl graphics and vinyl decals is critically important so you'll know exactly what to expect.
Vinyl car lettering is where the vinyl is contour cut into individual letters, numbers or words, just like your final design. "Individual" meaning, there's no white or clear backing. So when you apply the vinyl letters or contour cut shapes (vinyl logos or graphics) to your car, the lettering will appear as if it's printed right onto the car's surface.
Vinyl car graphics and vinyl logos are produced three different ways:
- Vinyl logos and vinyl graphics can be contour cut by the plotter and is the most common method for 1-3 color images
- Colorful and complex logos and graphics can be digitally printed directly onto the car vinyl with ease
- And for a truly custom look, digitally printed car graphics can be contour cut into any shape simple shapes like squares, rectangles and circles and complex, custom shapes like the shape of the logo or graphic itself.
To make sure we are all on the same page, we consider vinyl car decals to be "digitally printed vinyl graphics". A decal is basically a "sticker" with letters or an image printed on it. Essentially, a printed decal is similar in appearance to digitally printed vinyl car graphics. Except that digitally printed vinyl car graphics are a bit more sophisticated and upscale in their appearance than just a "big sticker".
The world searches for vinyl car graphics in a multitude of ways. Here are some classic examples Vinyl car decals, vinyl car Lettering, vinyl car window lettering, vehicle graphics, vehicle lettering, automotive graphics, automotive letterings, vinyl car stickers, vinyl lettering on cars and even some common misspelled words like vinal car letters, vynil car lettering, vynal car graphics and grafics.
There are just over 100 letter styles in SignMagic which can be used for vinyl car lettering. Plus, in our car graphics department, we have over 1,000 letter styles in our font library.
If you have a particular font you want us to use, just let us know what it is. If we don't have it already, we can probably get it either online or possibly, directly from you.
We have dozens of colors and shades in stock for your vinyl car lettering and graphics. Plus, we can print just about any color you can imagine!
Vinyl car graphics are surprisingly durable considering the amount of abuse they must withstand. The high tack adhesive system on modern vinyl lettering material will withstand hundreds of car washes, weather and temperature extremes, PLUS, the wind pressure while traveling at high speeds down the interstate.
But that doesn't answer your question as to how long your new vinyl car graphics will last!
So without further ado, here's the answer:
When you only need 2-3 years of life out of your vinyl, go with the "Standard Option". The standard option includes our intermediate vinyl which is value priced for short term application on cars. In spite of the fact that the vinyl manufacturers claim "5 Year Durability" on their intermediate grade vinyl graphics, that's an exaggeration.
Sure, if you keep your car in the garage for 5 years, you might get that kind of life span out of vinyl. But for general use, "wear & tear", you really shouldn't count on getting more than 3 years out of intermediate grade, vinyl car graphics. And it's actually a safer bet to only count on 2 years!
When you expect to keep your car more than 2 years, we recommend the "Premium Option" for vinyl car lettering and graphics. The premium option includes premium, high performance grade vinyl which is rated for 7-8 years outdoors.
However, it's not at all unusual for premium grade vinyl graphics to last even longer on cars than the manufacturer's own rating. At a minimum, you can expect our Premium Grade Vinyl to last 3 times longer than Intermediate Grade Vinyl Graphics. The price difference is only 30% more for premium vinyl car graphics - but the premium vinyl car lettering will last 300% longer!
Reflective vinyl is one of the sturdiest of all the vinyl car graphics materials and performs as well, if not better, than the premium grade vinyl graphics lasting 7 years or more.
Once you approve the final design, turnaround time is 24-48 hours to ship vinyl car letters and graphics.
Car Window Decals
"What kind of vinyl lettering do you recommend for the car windows?"For car windows, we recommend the contour cut, vinyl letters and graphics. One of the reasons we recommend the contour cut lettering is because you can see in and around each letter through the glass maintaining a high level of visibility while driving.
However, when it comes to vinyl car graphics for your glass windows, there are other options.
The second option for car windows is digitally printed vinyl. The only downside to digitally printed vinyl car graphics is that you can't see through the vinyl material itself.
Another popular option is digitally printed, perforated vinyl. Perforated car window graphics have tiny holes in the vinyl material. These tiny holes helps maintain a high quality image while allowing you to see OUT your car window!
Pretty cool stuff!
And finally, static cling vinyl can be applied to the INSIDE of your car glass window. If you put static cling vinyl on the outside of the glass, it will blow off immediately. It's designed to "cling", not stick. So the static cling, vinyl car graphics can be taken off and put back on over and over again.
Simply reactivate the clinging power with water!
When it comes to vinyl letters on the car glass windows, we only have one recommendation. White vinyl lettering is usually the best single color to use on car glass.
Why white?
White vinyl letters usually shows up the best, it's clean and neutral in color so it automatically goes with virtually any car color.
Are there exceptions to using white vinyl lettering & graphics on car windows?
Absolutely! You can get any color you want. Just keep in mind, darker colors usually don't show up nearly as well.
We can't cut vinyl car lettering to fit the curve of your window because it's likely, we won't have your car here to match the curve. However, we can show you an easy technique so you can custom fit the lettering to the curve at the top of your car window
Vinyl lettering holds up surprisingly well to the rubbing action and friction of the windshield wiper blade. Just keep your wipers clean from dirt and mud which can scratch the vinyl at the wiper blade runs across.
Overall, the wiper blades themselves have little effect, even over time.
Vinyl car lettering applied to the glass holds up quite well to temperature extremes and is unaffected by defrosters.
Vinyl lettering and graphics are the most visible on the outside of your glass window. And that's because almost all car glass has some tint on the windows. Some more than others.
The vinyl lettering and graphics made for your car are designed to withstand the elements. And since you want your message to be seen, applying the vinyl to the outside of the car glass is our recommendation.
Vinyl lettering can be removed from your car glass windows by starting to lift one edge with a razor blade. And then pulling the vinyl off with your fingers. A little heat from a heat gun or even a hair dryer can help speed up the process.
Vinyl Car Lettering And Graphics Application
"Does the vinyl lettering come ready to apply or will I have to put the vinyl letters on one letter at a time?"Your new vinyl letters and graphics for your car come all ready-to-apply.
The vinyl lettering will arrive to you:
- With the lettering already pre-spaced in sheets that are easy to handle
- With the letters perfectly straight and aligned on a strip
- And ready to apply as whole words together, so you DON'T have to apply individual letters one at time (that would be a nightmare!)
Vinyl car lettering and graphics are applied using our exclusive, Vinyl Magic Application Kit. This kit includes:
- A proprietary Deep Cleaner to properly treat the car's surface just before applying your new vinyl automotive graphics. It's perfectly safe to use on automotive paint and is a critically important step to proper adhesion.
- Vinyl Magic Application Fluid (for a perfect, bubble-free application)
- A vinyl graphics squeegee to firmly "press down" the vinyl car lettering
against the car's surface
Quick tip: Did you know that pressure is what activates the adhesive bond on vinyl car lettering? So use a lot of pressure when you squeegee down the vinyl graphics. - And finally, our kit reveals the real secrets to properly applying custom vinyl car lettering you won't find anywhere else!
The other "Auto Graphics Application Directions" you see around the internet are missing critically important steps. And missing even one of these steps can drastically shorten the life of your vinyl car graphics.
If you happen to mess up any of the vinyl letters or graphics when you are putting them on your car, please let us know right away. Whether you need one single vinyl letter or the whole set, we will ship you replacements at no charge!
In fact, we'll even pay the shipping! Here's our Goof Proof Guarantee for full details.
After applying your vinyl lettering and graphics, we recommend waiting at least 7 full days before washing your car, especially when it's cold outside. Give the adhesive plenty of time to "set".
You can apply vinyl letters and vinyl graphics on any of the painted surfaces of the car and anywhere on the glass.
When you are applying your new vinyl car lettering and vinyl graphics, you might get a few bubbles. Fortunately, they are quick and easy to take care of!
All you do is take a safety pin or needle and POP the bubble. The tiny hole in the vinyl will allow the air or water to escape. Just take your squeegee or finger to work out the air and you'll be all set. We do it all the time!
Time itself will almost always take care of any remaining bubbles. As the vinyl heats up in the sun and cools down at night, excess air is released and moisture evaporates. As this happens, the car vinyl will lay down perfectly smooth and flat.
If you're in the Charleston, SC or surrounding area, we offer in-shop and on-site installation services of vinyl car lettering and graphics.
No.
The adhesive on the vinyl and the vinyl graphics themselves will not damage the paint on your vehicle.
We recommend you wait at least 30 days before waxing your car after applying any vinyl letters or graphics. When the car is waxed, the area around the vinyl lettering should be done by hand.
And all of the wax against the edge of the vinyl should be carefully removed by buffing by hand. If you don't remove the wax from the edges of the vinyl, the chemicals in the wax might eventually affect the adhesive on the underside of the vinyl.
Premature failure of your vinyl car lettering and car graphics can be avoided by following these guidelines;
- Never use a high pressure, pressure washer to blast your car clean. To extend the life of your vinyl car graphics, wash by hand. Automatic Car Washes are fine too!
- Never use an electric buffer to wax over and around the vinyl lettering. Wax and buff by hand paying extra close attention to the edges of the vinyl letters to prevent wax buildup.
- And before applying your new vinyl car lettering, you must use the Deep Cleaner provided in the free Vinyl Magic Application Kit. This Deep Cleaner is one of the only paint safe fluids you can use that will properly remove all visible and invisible contaminants before applying your vinyl.
Vinyl Car Lettering Removal
"How do I remove the vinyl lettering when I'm ready to sell my car?"Your vinyl car graphics can be removed with a little help from a plastic razor blade (yes, plastic so it won't scratch your car). Adding heat with an inexpensive heat gun or hair dryer helps too. Just takes a little time is all.
No. Once you remove vinyl car graphics, you can't reuse them.
