Remember College Vinyl Decals On The Backs Of Cars?

Once Upon A Time, College Students Were The Only Ones To Use Vinyl Decals

When I was a senior in high school, I couldn't wait for my first college purchase - a smooth, vinyl decal bearing the name of my institute of higher learning. Of course, I would first need a car on which to place my vinyl decal, but I actually wanted the vinyl decal even more than the car. Why? Because going off to college was an exciting time. I had spent the past two or so years of high school straining to read other people's vinyl decals on their cars every time I hit the road and I was ready for my own.

I still read those vinyl decals when I see them. I travel a good bit, and each time I'm on the interstate and see a narrow, rectangular vinyl decal in collegiate script, I know it belongs to an eager young student with high hopes for the future. I always read the vinyl decals, sometimes spying some from my own alma mater. Having a college vinyl decal on my car when I was young gave me a sense of identity and belonging to something and I was excited about finally being a part of it. And now I see vinyl decals on cars everywhere, not just those belonging to the young idealists with their lives ahead of them. I see them advertising businesses, candidates, and even just expressing personalities. And you know what? I always take a few seconds to read them when I see these vinyl decals.

Vinyl Decals For Cars Are Simple And Affordable To Have Custom Made

If college students can afford vinyl decals for their cars, then they must not be too expensive, right? Vinyl decals are made by simply transferring an image on a digital printer onto a thin, adhesive piece of vinyl. Because the vinyl materials are inexpensive and the process of creating the vinyl decals requires minimal labor, the cost of designing and ordering your own vinyl decal is relatively low. Think of vinyl decals as a type of sticker - the image, including digital photographs, if you choose, is uploaded onto the digital printer and comes out on a vinyl sheet cut to your specifications. You then place the vinyl decal onto your car window and - tada! You are proudly displaying your own custom designed vinyl decal on your car.

With the production of vinyl decals so simple and the materials so readily available, even a college student can afford to design and order an entire student body's worth of custom vinyl decals. So if you have an idea in mind for your own vinyl decal, don't hesitate in making it happen. You will still be able to order a pizza after your bill is paid!

Will Vinyl Decals Leave A Residue On my Car?

The protection of your car is obviously more important than any decorative items you might place on it, so you don't want to purchase anything that will leave a lasting mark on your car or be difficult to get off. Vinyl decals are indeed adhesive, but that doesn't mean they leave any type of glue or stickiness behind once you graduate to another vinyl decal. In fact, the only signs left of your vinyl decal, once you remove it, will be any dirt that has framed the vinyl decal. And that's easy enough to remove with a little window cleaner!

Your vinyl decal has a chance of getting dirty, at least as dirty as your car gets. To keep your vinyl decal clean, just gently rub it with mild soap and warm water. Be sure to use a soft cloth - paper towels are too abrasive. While your image will last through multiple washings, the surface of a vinyl decal is still vulnerable to scratching. And even though vinyl decals are affordable enough to replace, who wants to go through the trouble?

Belong To Something With A Vinyl Decal

Maybe you're just beginning your education. Maybe you've been out of school for decades. Maybe you went straight into a career and bypassed formal education altogether. In any case, you most likely belong to something and want to show it off - a civic organization, a company, a political group - the options are endless. Just like I was excited to show others where I belonged with my vinyl decal, you can do the same with yours. Simply create a design that is special to you and place your order. Maybe I'll even see it next time I hit the highway!
